Kingston 8GB microSDHC Mobility Kit Review

So many memory card formats, so little time. Wouldn’t it be so much easier if you could amalgamate all of those photos and music onto a single memory card, transporting it between devices without having to deal with multiple memory cards?

That appears to be the idea behind this memory kit from the good people at Kingston Technology. The Kingston 8GB microSDHC kit uses a regular microSDHC card at its core, but this same chunk of flash memory can be adapted for other purposes as well. In this way, pictures you take with your digital camera can be immediately viewed and shared on your cell phone. Music you download from your computer can be sent to your smartphone for portable enjoyment.

All of the actual storage is restricted to the fingernail-sized microSD card stashed inside this Kingston kit. That single memory card can then be outfitted with a series of different adapters, depending on the exact purpose that you need at the moment. Eight gigabytes should provide a fair bit of space for high-resolution photos, high-quality MP3 tunes, a variety of Office documents, and maybe a few videos too.

The Kingston 8GB microSDHC card kit is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Mac OS X. It should be noted, however, that this card will not work with Windows ReadyBoost. A strange omission, I suppose, but not one that breaks the deal.

Presumably, the card will also be recognized in a Linux environment too, as well as any number of phones that use the microSDHC format. Remember that older phones may top out their compatibility at 2GB, so double check with your manufacturer.
